Mutual-aid is just the latest name for the “we” based social care structures Indigenous people have been practicing since time immemorial.

In this spirit, Four Directions began in 2005 and brought Indigenous and non-Indigenous people together to provide mutual-aid disaster support for Indigenous nations in Louisiana’s coastal communities affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Our efforts have continued through the Lakota Solidarity Project and work with the Lakota Cante Tenza Strong Heart Warrior Society. We are renewing work in 2020 to address mutual-aid needs around the COVID 19 pandemic.
