What happens when fantastic artists come together to share their time and talent for mutual-aid?
A Saturday online benefit that is a huge success! We raised over $500 in support of our work. All of this money goes to buying, making, and transporting resources where they need to go. We have no overhead and no salaries, so this your donations are making a direct difference.
Donors included: Ryan, Rebecca, Michael, Jeanette, Elizabeth, Diggy, Russ, Allison, Anupama, Wendy, Cheryl, Paula, Francesca, Lisat, Dustin, and Sarika.
We owe a huge debt to our self-organizing artists, especially Rorie Kelly and Diggy Kat of Lucky Star Radio who really did all the work. And all of the musicians were fantastic:
Rorie Kelly | Nick Kerzner of Wandering Time | Martha Trachtenberg | The Scooches | Naomi Rabinowitz | Rayeon | Ondine PM of PM Edition | Diggy Kat
You can rewatch all of their performances on FourDirectionsMA. We encourage you to support their music by buying CDs, merch, and other swag they might have. It’s tough times for musicians right now – show them some love!

Paumanauke LI Masks for the People
A local Indigenous nation is in urgent need of supplies and protective equipment for their people who remain drastically under-served. The following items are needed RIGHT NOW:
- Masks (1000 masks+ are needed ASAP)
- Hand Sanitizer
- Canned Food
- Soup Making Ingredients
- Ensure (including diabetic suitable drinks)
- DONATE ITEMS – Call 631-626-5842 to arrange pick-up or delivery. Or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
- DONATE TO OUR GOFUNDME – Go to our GoFundMe page and give what is safe and appropriate for you. You can also find a link on the right side of the page.
- SEW MASKS – Get involved with our Masks for the People project and help sew and distribute masks.
Please note this nation has many elders, along with people who are immune-compromised and sick from exposure to environmental toxins. As in many Indigenous communities, high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes are also epidemic. COVID-19 is a SEVERE AND ONGOING THREAT to this nation. Several people in the community have already passed.
Please prioritize this need and help us support our relatives!
Mostly southwest based at the moment but a positive resource regardless! From the ASU library site.
We are encouraging everyone to begin preparation and planting for individual and community gardens beyond what is normally planted. The economic consequences of the pandemic will be considerable and added impact on vulnerable communities.
Look for additional information coming to the DIY Page.
We’ve just posted an updated Solidarity Education Flyer. You can download it here, or off the page’s sidebar.
The flyer contains information about:
- Why it’s important to prioritize Indigenous nations and communities during the COVID19 pandemic.
- Information about Cultural Compentency.
- Four Directions solidarity principals.
If you have any questions or comments, or would like additional information or handouts on these subjects, please let us know. Also, if you need the handout in a different file format, please let us know as well. Thanks!

SHINNECOCK GO FUND ME: Shinnecock COVID19 Go-Fund Me Site
COVID19 is a novel crisis, but not the first as all Indigenous people of Turtle Island know. You can read our Prayer for Action and call out for greater togetherness and social relationship in this time.
We are in the early stages of capacity building. We are growing collaboration with other groups, organizations, and individuals while also getting reports for community needs from various nations. Whether you want to volunteer, donate, or have a need for your nation or community, please fill out the Mutual-Aid Form. It helps us organize and plan effectively. What is cultural competency?
Four Directions has always focused on ensuring our work is culturally competent with the communities we are invited into. For non-Indigenous people and other settlers, cultural competence is a practical and necessary step towards reconciliation. Continue reading “Cultural Competency”
